I was looking for a way to backup all the relevant drivers for my hardware on Windows today and came across a awesome little tool called DriverMax. After the free registration (mandatory, if you want to use the software beyond the 30 day trial period), DriverMax scans your Windows PC for drivers, compares your existing driver versions to its massive online database and comes back with a detailed report on which drivers need updating. The utility itself weighs in at around 3.3 Mb.
During the 'sync' process, DriverMax will also upload some of the drivers found on your PC onto its website for the benefit of the community. The great thing about it is that it literally allows you to point and click your way out of driver hell, including the option to use previous versions of drivers in the event of an incompatibility. Driver restorations are also a breeze thanks to the 'Import drivers' functionality. You can forget about that sinking feeling you get when you know you'll have to hunt around for that driver disk you knew you should have stored safely.
Features are still being added, and as of this writing, driver downloads are enabled only for Windows Vista 32-bit editions. You'll still be able to use the software to find updated drivers for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (those are the other 2 supported operating systems at this time), but the links to the driver downloads for these 2 won't be available.
This is a great tool and once you start using it you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
